On May the 3rd, only a day after GPS technology became available to the public, a man called David Almer hid a box in the woods. He took the coordinates with his gps unit, and posted them online for the whole world to see. Geocaching was born! You can see the first ever cache lisitng site, created by Mike Teague, here.
As people gathered interest on this unique and exciting hobby, geocaching grew and grew. There are now over 2 million geocaches hidden around the world in over 184 countries.
How can I start?
Simple! All you need to get involved with geocaching, is an account to geocaching.com and a gps device. If you don't have a special gps device, you can download the Geocaching app on both the apple and android store, and get going right away!
